Toyota GR Yaris 2023 Complete Review

We are here with the Toyota GR Yaris 2023 review! Toyota made its most important breakthrough with the Yaris model. With the new Toyota Yaris winning the World Rally Championship, the perspective on the company and the vehicle has moved to a much higher point. Toyota’s new performance vehicle was exhibited for the first time in Tokyo 2020.

Developed together with the racing team TOYOTA GAZOO Racing with the aim of better and more entertaining road cars, GR Yaris is at the top of the new Yaris product range. Benefitting from the design and engineering capabilities of Toyota’s WRC partner, Tommi Mäkinen Racing, GR Yaris has a three-cylinder 1.6-liter turbo engine producing 261 HP and 360 Nm of torque. Let’s examine the details!

New Toyota Yaris GR Performance Oriented in Every Aspect!

The new GR Yaris has been developed by focusing on performance in every aspect. The vehicle, which has a completely new platform and engine, also has new suspensions, aerodynamic design and a new permanent four-wheel drive system called GR-FOUR. When developing the GR Yaris, Toyota and Tommi Mäkinen Racing worked to keep the car as light as possible, combined with perfect aerodynamics and weight distribution. As a result, the best performance and the most entertaining driving character were achieved.

The Japanese manufacturer has strengthened the central and rear part of the underbody with extra supports in the new Yaris GR Sport, thus reducing rolling by obtaining a harder body than the standard version. Toyota also overhauled the steering and suspension system and reduced the ground clearance by 10 mm by making fine adjustments to the springs and shock absorbers.

While the lower roof line improved the aerodynamics of the vehicle, details such as placing the new 1.6 liter turbo engine towards the center of the vehicle and positioning the battery in the trunk enabled the GR Yaris to have better handling and balance. Its three-door body is made of lightweight materials, including carbon fiber polymer and aluminum. The performance of the GR Yaris was tested by “professional racing and rally pilots” during the development phase.

High Performance with All-New 1.6 Liter Turbo Engine

GR Yaris’s all-new three-cylinder turbocharged engine was developed using motorsport technologies to deliver maximum performance. The engine with a volume of 1,618 cm3 produces 261 HP power and 360 Nm torque. The compact and lightweight DOHC 12-valve single-scroll turbo unit is paired with a six-speed manual transmission developed to cope with high torques.

As GR Yaris with aluminum hood, trunk lid and doors, it manages to stay within the limits of B segment with its weight of 1,280 kg while offering C segment performance. Completing the acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds with a power/weight ratio of 4.9 HP per kilogram, the maximum speed of GR Yaris is electronically limited to 230 km/h. The performance of GR Yaris is supported by the new GR-FOUR four-wheel drive system. In addition to being lightweight, the system has been tuned to optimize the power transmitted to each wheel. The GR-FOUR driving system has features that can transfer front/rear torque distribution completely to the front or completely to the rear.

Toyota GR Yaris 2023 Interior Features

There are front seats specific to the GR Sport version and upholstery mixed with nubuck and synthetic leather. There is also a GR logo on the leather-covered three-spoke steering wheel. In addition, the aluminum pedals and the dark metallic surfaces occasionally seen on the console are among the striking details in the living space.

Toyota GR Yaris 2023 Exterior Features

Compared to the previous model, Toyota added grilles to the front and rear, giving it a much sportier look. In addition, the red brake calipers behind the beautiful stainless steel rims almost remind you of a modified vehicle. 18-inch wheels surrounded by Falken FK510 tires and ‘Gazoo Racing’ badges on the front and rear of the model attract attention. Apart from this, the details on the front grille and center ventilation differ. At the rear, a different diffuser stands out.

Extra Performance with Optional Track Package

GR Yaris users will also be able to purchase the optional Track Package for more performance. With this package, Torsen limited slip differential on the front and rear axle, performance-oriented suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels come. The Torsen differential also separates the right and left wheels, providing more natural vehicle control. GR Yaris also stands out as the official homologated version of the new Yaris WRC racing car. In this way, it has features that will meet all the expectations of users to compete in local rallies.
